Privacy Policy

Short version: your family's data is yours. We don't sell it, advertise with it, or share it. Ever.

Flock is a tool for your family, not an audience for advertisers. We do not run ads, sell your data, or share your family's information with third parties. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how it's used.

1. Who we are

Flock Family ("Flock," "we," "us") is a family calendar application available at app.flockfamily.app. We are based in the United States. Questions about this policy can be directed to hello@flockfamily.app.

2. What we collect

We collect only what's necessary to run the service:

  • Account information — your email address or username and a securely hashed password.
  • Family data — the family name, member names, colors, and roles you set up in Flock.
  • Calendar events — event titles, dates, times, and which family members they're associated with.
  • iCal sync URLs — external calendar feed URLs you connect to Flock (e.g. Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Airbnb). We store these to perform background sync on your behalf.
  • Location (ZIP code) — if you configure weather, we store your home ZIP code to fetch a local forecast from Open-Meteo, a privacy-respecting weather service. This is optional.
  • Session data — a secure JWT token stored in your browser to keep you signed in.

We do not collect browsing history, device fingerprints, or any information beyond what's needed to show your family's calendar.

3. How we use your data

Your data is used for one purpose: operating Flock for your family.

  • To display your family's calendar and sync events across devices.
  • To authenticate you when you sign in.
  • To fetch and sync events from connected iCal feeds.
  • To show weather in the calendar header (if configured).
  • To enable Multi-Flock — letting invited members from other households follow your schedule.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to running the app.

4. Third-party services

Flock uses a small number of infrastructure providers to operate the service:

  • Vercel — hosts the application. Vercel may log standard request metadata (IP address, user agent) for security and performance purposes.
  • Supabase — hosts our PostgreSQL database. Your family's data is stored in Supabase's infrastructure, encrypted at rest.
  • Open-Meteo — provides weather data. If you enable weather, your ZIP code is sent to Open-Meteo to retrieve a forecast. Open-Meteo does not track users.

We do not integrate with advertising networks, analytics platforms, or social media trackers.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. We will only disclose your information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

Within Flock, data is shared only as you direct — for example, family members you invite can see the events on your calendar, and Multi-Flock followers can see the schedule you've made available to them via an invite code.

6. Data retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your family's data — including all events, members, and calendar syncs — is permanently deleted from our systems. To request deletion, email hello@flockfamily.app.

7. Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plaintext. Database access is restricted by row-level security policies. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your family's information from unauthorized access.

8. Children

Flock is designed for family use and may be used to track schedules for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Children appear in Flock as named rows on a family's calendar — their data is managed by the family account holder.

9. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your data at any time. You can update your account information from within the app. To request a full export or deletion of your data, contact us at hello@flockfamily.app and we'll respond within 30 days.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top and notify account holders by email. Continued use of Flock after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
